It's raining it's pouring

The UK'S unpredictable weather is forcing businesses to be prepared all year round for every eventuality according to workplace equipment supplier Slingsby which is substantially increasing its range of weather related products as a result of soaring customer demand.

Figures from The Association of British Insurers show that insurance claims for flood damage rose threefold to £4.5 billion in the last decade. Lee Wright, Marketing Director of Slingsby says: "In the last few months alone the UK has faced lots of freak weather from heat waves in Spring and now summer flooding. It's an unfortunate fact that many businesses that are flooded never reopen so increasing numbers of businesses are ordering equipment that can help to prevent such damage.

"As a result we've seen enquiries soar for all types of weather related equipment such as water pumps and flood barriers and we've introduced lots of new products this year so we can continue to help businesses protect themselves against flood damage."

Lee adds: "Although it's impossible to completely weather-proof a property there are lots of things that can help to prevent damage and make drying-out and cleaning up much quicker and easier. In buildings that are at risk of flooding, for fixed items and furniture, it's a good idea to use water resistant materials such as stainless steel or plastic where possible. You should also stand electrical equipment and machinery on raised plinths and store valuable items on high-mounted shelves."

"Finally check any insurance policies covering buildings and contents to determine what cover they offer for flood damage. It's also worth notifying insurers when making any modifications to buildings and contents because it could result in lower premiums."
