HUNDREDS of experts from the global waste and recycling industries have been given an insight into the machinery solutions offered for their sector by JCB during conferences staged at the company's World HQ.
More than 500 delegates from the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Hungary and the Middle East descended on JCB in Rocester, Staffordshire, over two days.
The centre piece of the two conferences was a keynote speech from Nick Herbert, MP, The Shadow Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Delegates were also given an update on new legislation facing the industry and the latest product launches from JCB for waste and recycling. Guests were also shown behind the scenes of the new £40 million JCB Heavy Products factory in Uttoxeter.
James Richardson, JCB's General Manager for Waste, Recycling & Demolition said: "The sheer scale our 2009 Waste Days and breadth of information covered re-affirms JCB's position at the forefront of this crucial sector. We have addressed the burning issues and legislation affecting the market, identified and demonstrated emerging industries and best practice from around the globe and showcased our industry-leading range of purpose built products for the sector. The interest shown from such a vast number of delegates demonstrates the value of these informative events."
After the presentations, visitors watched a live demonstration of JCB Wastemaster machines involved in waste and recycling handling applications alongside a full range of processing equipment from other leading suppliers to the industry. The tasks re-created included: kerbside collection, wood waste processing, green waste composting, metals recycling, end of life vehicle disposal, WEEE operations, tyre recycling and aggregate recycling.
Shown towed behind a JCB Fastrac model, the Zago Eco Green Composter offers a simple, reliable and economic means of green waste recycling. Due to very low noise levels, they are favoured by many local authorities for use in urban areas. Supplied by Westcon Equipment, a new Jenz BA720 high speed shredder was shown in operation handling green waste. Replacing the AZ660 model it is set to prove hugely popular unit in the green waste and composting industry.
Long term JCB customer, Cannock-based Jack Moody Holdings provided a wide range of equipment and materials including RoRo skips, a Walking Floor Trailer, wood waste, blocks and logs to be processed during the demonstration.
Equipped with a 710 HP engine, the Hammel VB 950, also known as the "Red Giant", is ideal for large volume applications dealing with the toughest materials. It boasts a throughput capacity of up to 200 tons/hour in MSW, or 150 tons/hour in C&D waste.
Rubblemaster of Germany provided its simple-to-operate RM70 GO! Mobile crusher. Weighing less than 20 tonnes, the RM70 GO! is extremely agile. Thanks to its compact dimensions, the tracked mobile crusher can be loaded quickly and transported to any job site even when access is restricted or ground conditions are difficult. Demonstrating ELV operations was Rozone Ltd's SEDA de-pollution equipment - which can extract over 98% of fluids from the average end of life vehicle. This was used in conjunction with a JCB JS200W Scrap Handler and JCB Teletruks provided by specialist scrap metal and vehicle recycling firm Simms Metals.
Wednesbury-based WCR Vehicle Hire Ltd specialises in hiring high quality municipal vehicles to councils and local authorities across the UK and supplied a refuse vehicle to demonstrate kerbside collection applications at the Waste Day.
Additional support, materials and equipment came from the Waste Recycling Group in conjunction with Suffolk County Council; pallet shredding equipment from manufacturer Systematic Servicing; a volumetric crusher from Armcon Cemen Tech and a 3-way split 2-deck screening plant from Sandvik. Red Rhino supplied a Mini Crusher; A Ward provided a container tilting bed and a McCloskey trammel screen was also used. Throughout the demonstration skips of general waste from Peak Waste were used.
