HILO partners Angleton in warehouse fit-out for plumbing trade supplies

Hi-Lo Storage Systems, pallet racking and long span shelving have formed an integral part of the fitting out of PTS Plumbing Trade Supplies new distribution centre at Birmingham. Undertaken as a partnership with its distributor, Angleton, Hi-Lo's FEM compliant, Premierack standard aisle racking and Shelfplan, long span shelving have provided PTS with a state-of-the-art storage system that provides 6000 pallet positions.

Carefully designed by Angleton to make maximum use of the headroom, the beams of the 12-metre high Premierack have been covered with open timber shelves so that a range of products can be stored. Further storage, for small parts, has been provided with the installation of Hi-Lo Storage System's Shelfplan long span shelving.

PTS' new distribution centre has doubled the business logistics network to meet the growing demand from customers for its comprehensive range of heating, plumbing and bathroom products. Angleton has now turned the 100,000 sq. foot shell into a modern and functional working environment comprising of warehousing and offices. The distribution centre incorporates some of the latest developments in warehouse technology including 11 metre high lift video controlled forklifts.

"The new distribution centre has already made improvements in our excellent service with 80% of branches receiving deliveries before 12 noon", says Neil Allan, Logistics Director for PTS. "Angleton's designs and overall project management was first class and we are delighted with Hi-Lo's racking and shelving which are designed to the highest UK and European standards and meet our requirements for a modern, innovative and technically excellent system".

The FEM compliant Premierack system combines several key features including uprights that can be reversed in the event of damage, thus reducing waste. The uprights, which are available in a variety of gauges, have a 50mm slot pitch, thereby increasing the racking system's flexibility and maximising space utilisation. The beams are available in open, box or stepped form, allowing greater adjustability, and the stiffening ribs and rolled edges of the five-hook connector offer increased stability and safety.

Bridging the gap between light duty shelving and pallet racking Hi-Lo Storage Systems Shelfplan has set the standard for heavy-duty industrial shelving systems. The high capacity frames can support a uniformly distributed load up to 7000kg and upright slots have 50mm beam pitch to allow full adjustability. With standard heights from 1200mm to 3600mm and a wide choice of beam lengths, the Shelfplan is suitable for various shelf types.

Established in 1907, Hi-Lo has been manufacturing racking and shelving systems since the early 1960s. Employing a workforce of 65, the company is renowned for its technical knowledge and high quality products. Its storage equipment, marketed under the brand names Premierack and System Shelfplan, is sold throughout the UK and Europe.
