Highways Agency appoints Norbert Dentressangle as strategic and emergency salt partner

The Highways Agency has appointed Norbert Dentressangle under a new framework agreement for the provision of a range of salt supply and management services for 2012 - 2016.

The Highways Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Transport (DfT), and is responsible for operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport. As part of this, the Agency is responsible for the provision of a 'winter service' to provide safe passage for road users by keeping the network free of ice and snow and open at all times.

Under the new agreement, Norbert Dentressangle is one of five companies who will be responsible for managing the procurement, storage, condition monitoring and distribution of salt to the Agency's service providers throughout the UK.

The latest agreement builds on the existing relationship between Norbert Dentressangle and The Highways Agency, which was established in 2010 with the award of the contract to manage the national storage and distribution of items associated with the provision and maintenance of roadside cameras, emergency telephones and signs on the motorway network in England and extended in 2011 to encompass the handling, storage and distribution of motorway variable message signs.
