FTA on Raising transport compliance standards amongst non vocational drivers

The Freight Transport Association's Essential Services Working Group and Utilities Transport Association will be coming together to hold their annual sector conference in June.

Utility companies and their contractors face a unique and complex set of operational compliance challenges as a result of the diverse nature of their fleets and the secondary role that commercial vehicles play in the roles their staff perform. FTA's Utilities and Civil Engineering Conference provides an opportunity for managers in these sectors to ensure that they are on top of best practice and that they are prepared for forthcoming transport legislation and enforcement developments.

Janet Entwistle, Managing Director of BT Fleet, will chair the event, which will include a presentation by North Western Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell on the efficient management of commercial vehicle fleets at dynamic operating centres.

Other subjects covered include:

Implications for the operator and driver of graduated fixed penalties;

Changing legislation and enforcement developments affecting the utilities sector;

Benchmarking compliance and levels of operational control;

Individual and business responsibilities linked to corporate manslaughter;

Harnessing technological developments to reduce costs and improve environmental performance;

Theft prevention techniques for vehicles and loads.
