epyx automotive ecommerce reports used car and van stock in short supply

Good used car and van stock remains in short supply and continues to command strong values despite the generally falling market, says epyx.

The motor industry e-commerce specialist says that values for standard mileage mainstream and prestige saloons, hatches and estates in good condition aged two-four years old being sold through its 1link Disposal Network e-commerce platform remain especially good.

Ken Trinder, head of business development at epyx, said: "The issue is that despite the general fall in used car values seen in the last few months, good used stock remains in short supply.

"There are a quite a lot of older, tired cars and vans around that are difficult to retail but the prices we have seen for the quality ex-fleet stock that is the mainstay of many used car operations have stayed fairly buoyant over the last month."

He added that what was starting to be seen in the used car sector was a wider spread of prices between the best and worst stock than had been usual in recent years.

"Pre-recession, most ex-fleet stock that came through the platform was sold at around three years/60,000 miles and the condition spread for that stock was fairly minimal.

"We now have seen a trend where buyers are being far more aggressive towards low mileage stock."

Trinder added that values being seen through 1link Disposal Network continued to outstrip other disposal routes.

He said: "For the vast majority of models of all kinds, we continue to outperform the industry price guides, which we believe is a good indication of the continuing shift among used car traders towards buying more stock online."

Used by major fleets such as leasing companies to sell stock to used car and van dealers, 1link Disposal Network forms a component in the 1link cradle-to-grave e-commerce vehicle life cycle which includes e-commerce platforms covering vehicle procurement, service and maintenance, taxation and rental.
