Pupils at a college in Leicestershire were treated to a break from their normal teaching routine for one day thanks to volunteers from Pall-Ex who are patrons of the nationwide Young Enterprise Scheme.
The volunteers used a presentation written by Young Enterprise, and taught 14 and 15 year old children about personal finance. The teaching program examined practical aspects of life that the children would soon be facing, for example job interview techniques, how to write a cheque, and how to fill in a paying in slip. In the afternoon these young adults were encouraged to be more involved in the teaching, by partaking in games which taught them the benefits and risks of differing savings schemes, and perils of mounting interest on numerous small loans.
6 volunteers from Pall-Ex gave their time to the scheme, and were amazed by their varied experiences. There was approximately 30 students per class, and the students were grouped together to encourage teamwork. One volunteer, Renata Jones, PR Executive for Pall-Ex, commented "I was surprised by how many children had not yet thought about what path their life would take, and I was pleased that we were given this opportunity to help them set their goals and aspirations."
