Specialist logistics and driver training provider TIR Training Services has recruited two new instructors to join its experienced team of trainers.
Del Stanley and Paul Birch have joined TIR's Licence Acquisition Team at a time when the company is undergoing expansion after securing several major training contracts with leading logistics and distribution companies. They join existing instructor David Mills.
One of the new recruits is not only an experienced instructor but also a former freestyle motocross rider. Del Stanley was six years old when his father bought him his first bike and was competing by the time he was seven. He joined the TA and represented the Army for many years in competitions around the world, while also spending 15 years working as a motorcycle instructor.
Having learned to drive trucks while in the Armed Forces, Del became an LGV instructor in the Army and also went on to gain 10 years of commercial driving experience.
Del said: "I'm thoroughly enjoying the challenge of my new role at TIR. It's great to train people up to exacting standards required by the tests and see them pass with flying colours."
Fellow newcomer Paul comes to TIR with over 14 years' experience of driving in the commercial sector. He brings all the skills he has gained and his inside knowledge to his new position, which he describes as hugely rewarding. He said: "The most daunting thing is getting in the cab with someone who's never driven anything so large before and realising they think they can squeeze through small gaps the size of a family car!"
TIR's sales and marketing manager Tim Watson said: "Del and Paul have different career backgrounds but both have the same focus and determination to help people become the best they can be. They're a great illustration of the diverse, relevant knowledge and experience in the team at TIR, and it's that mix that has been so successful in the past 10 years.
"We're currently expanding our workforce at TIR to keep up with the demand from major customers who recognise the importance of high-quality, up-to-date training."
TIR, based in Beverley, East Yorkshire, began training in 2000 as an LGV driving school and has grown rapidly to become a total training solutions provider to the UK's logistics industry. The company was acquired by Deflog VQ Trust, an educational charitable trust that provides logistic training to the military, in 2006. Both TIR and Deflog are not-for-profit organisations, reinvesting profits back into the sector, and working with both owner-drivers and some of the UK's most recognised companies.
TIR offers training programmes at its own site in Beverley or can dispatch instructors to clients' premises anywhere in the UK. The Licence Acquisition Team offers courses for the following licences: B&C, covering car and trailer; C, for Class 2 rigid vehicles; and C&E, for articulated trucks. TIR is currently offering a £100 discount on five-day C and C&E courses booked by the end of June (subject to terms and conditions).
