Dairy date assessing transports contribution to a low carbon economy

Speaker: Helene Vergereau, Managing Consultant, Atkins

York Railway Institute, 22 Queen St., York, YO24 1AD

18.30 for 19.00hrs

In July 2009, the Department for Transport published its Carbon Reduction Strategy which details the Department's proposed actions to reduce the transport industry's contribution to carbon emissions to 2021.

Many interventions are to be implemented through national policy, but many also depend on local authorities, sub-regions and regions to deliver emissions reductions. In 2009, both Scotland and the East of England commissioned transport and carbon studies to identify interventions which can be implemented at the regional and local level to reduce emissions from the transport sector.

Helene will present the studies' findings and explore the following questions: How far can the transport sector go and how far should it go? Which are the key interventions which will deliver the required cuts?
