Allison's next generation transmission system meets the need for power and durability in challenging terrain.
Allison Transmission, a worldwide provider of commercial duty automatic transmissions for on- and off-road applications has been chosen by Astra to fit their tipper trucks with Allison's most advanced transmission system. Designed specifically to cope with challenging conditions, the Allison-fitted Astra HD8 tippers will offer reliability, durability, safer manoeuvring and ease of use in a wide range of heavy duty applications, such as oil field operations in the Middle East.
Based on a strong relationship and excellent customer feedback, Astra is increasing the automatic option across its range and has selected the 4700 transmission to offer the very best performance as well as improve efficiency, reduce down time and keep maintenance costs to a minimum. Fitted with a seven speed lever selector, the range also offers advanced electronic controls to maximise vehicle performance in even the toughest environmental and ground conditions. Maximizing engine efficiency by multiplying torque through the converter and delivering continuous power to the driveline makes Allison fitted trucks more productive and easier to drive.
The first new HD8 tippers have already begun work in oil-field sites across the Middle East, transporting goods across deserts, delivering pre-fab houses for oil workers, hauling material from mining and travelling long distances on unreliable terrain. The first trucks have generated much interest within Allison's customer base and this has led to Astra working closely with Allison to support further customer requests for optimized powertrain solutions. Well known for its flexible and responsiveness to customer demands, Astra is already looking to extend the use of Allison automatics to its fire fighting trucks. "We have learned from our customers that the Allison product is very reliable," says Ing. Naccarella, Engineering Manager for the Astra HD8 platform. "When there is a requirement for an automatic transmission, we know that with Allison we can meet our customers' expectations. We can fit it and forget about it!"
Allison's automatic transmissions are becoming increasing popular in other application segments, not only for Astra, but among many of the world's leading vehicle OEMs. "At Allison we aim to respond to the growing demand within the industry for less down time, greater safety and comfort for drivers and faster return on investment," says Allison Transmissions' Account Manager, Simona Pilone. "Astra has chosen a transmission system that will enable its customers to complete journey times faster, reduce maintenance and repair requirements, achieving required performance and efficiency even with smaller engine size."
