Whale Tankers' customer, SP Holding of Telford, Shropshire - a leading drainage services, truck and plant hire, and events specialist - is quite literally flying high at present. Indeed they, like Whale themselves, are looking to do what ever they can to successfully ride out the recession in style. Take the recent West Midlands Show in Shrewsbury, for example. Over the two-day event - sponsored by SP Holding for the second year running - the staunch Whale Tankers supporter put on what can only be described as a 'Whale' of a show.
And it all centred on a high-octane performance that Team Bolddog put in - a group of daredevil motorbike riders who specialise in the field of extreme sports. Using the most sophisticated landing ramp ever seen anywhere in the world, the riders jumped gaps of over 75ft - leaving their seats and leapfrogging one of SP Holding's Whale Tankers in the process.
As enthusiastic Steve Holding, managing director of SP Holding commented: "As you can see, we always aim high and never shy away from taking a leap of faith ourselves. On a serious note, the stunt team really were the focal point of what was an extremely successful event. We were delighted to be able to introduce one of our Whale Tankers into the stunt line-up, particularly as they are a class act themselves!"
But what did Whale make of the stunt team's achievement? As Whale's Mark Warmington said: "The rider must have had his heart in his mouth. If jumping a span of 75ft wasn't scary enough, he then had to look down into the jaws of a Whale!"
Having earlier this year revealed a new group structure and corporate image in the process, SP Holding is continuing to focus on investing in its product and service offering. So far this year, SP Holding ahs invested approximately £1million in additional vehicles from Whale Tankers. As Steve Holding is keen to add; "it is a capital expenditure programme that we aim to continue as a means of helping us realise the ambitious and ongoing development strategy we have in place for the business."
Operating a total fleet of some 56 vehicles, 28 of these have been supplied by Whale Tankers of Solihull.
