Weight loss brings gains for local charity

Bury St Edmunds-based distribution specialists Cross Country Carriers have raised £741.73 for local charity East Anglian Children's Hospice (EACH) by holding a sponsored slimming contest.

Led by Managing Director Jon Humphry, the group committed to a six month programme to lose weight, improve their fitness and raise money for EACH, with the Cross Country Carriers Slimmers losing a combined three stone in total.

Jon Humphry, Managing Director of Cross Country Carriers said: "Obesity is a growing problem in the UK and can lead to serious health implications. We decided to tackle this issue head-on and thought that it would be a perfect opportunity to raise valuable funds for our nominated charity, EACH, who do amazing work in supporting children and their families with the challenges that accompany life-threatening illnesses."

Nikki Brown from EACH said: "We would like to thank Cross Country Carriers for their generosity. We need to raise over £15,000 a day, every day of the year, so the support of local businesses, like Cross Country Carriers, is essential in order to provide the care needed for children with life-threatening illnesses and offer support to their families".

Cross Country Carriers, which is celebrating its 35th Anniversary in 2013, is one of over 100 members in the Palletways UK network - Europe's largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. The company's distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies who share each other's resources to deliver small consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before.
