WeeeCare has become the first WEEE compliance scheme to win an EA licence for the administration of far-reaching new recycling regulations.
Since the gates opened on the 2nd January 2007 for companies to apply for the EA's compliance to run WEEE removal schemes, several contenders have stepped forward. However, WeeeCare has been the first company to succeed in getting the backing of the EA.
WeeeCare's proposal clearly shows huge benefit to its subscribers. WeeeCare is the first company to clearly and openly state the cost of WEEE removal – and it starts from as little as £6 per tonne.
The WEEE directive demands that all electrical and electronic equipment manufacturers must sign up to a Producer Compliance Scheme (PCS) for the removal and recycling of the sector's waste by 15th March.
WeeeCare is the only operator to clearly state the costs ahead of deadline and hopes this will reassure the many companies – particularly SMEs - who are concerned with possible huge bills of meeting this new law.
The licence holder, which claims to be the leading UK compliance scheme, says costs can be as little as £6 per tonne, with an average of £9. These figures are hundreds of pounds less than many potential operators have been threatening.

To ensure minimal outlay and help producers decide which scheme to enrol with, WeeeCare was keen to be upfront and transparent about its costs from the outset."
