An intrepid team of three challengers from Transdek UK, a leading manufacturer of loading equipment for double-deck HGV's based in Harworth, Doncaster, will taking part in the Yorkshire Tough Mudder over the weekend of August 2nd - 3rd in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Brothers Leon and Dean Butler, General Manager and Operations Manager respectively, will be teaming up with colleague Martin James, Service Manager, as they hope to raise over £1,000 for the charity that provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer.
As well as helping with the medical needs of people affected by cancer, Macmillan Cancer Support campaigns for better cancer care and aims to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK. The Transdek team are supporting Macmillan as Martin's family has been helped through difficult times by the charity.
Martin explains: "Apart from getting a bit fitter and losing some weight, my main motivation for entering this event is to raise funds for Macmillan, a cause which is very close to my heart. Macmillan was fantastic in providing support and care for our family when we lost my Nan, in 1997, and my dad, in 2007, to cancer.
"I haven't always been the fittest of people, so this is an especially hard challenge for me to complete. However, I'm determined to finish the event so I'm working out with a personal trainer and also going to the gym three times a week. As well as raising as much money as possible I'm hoping to lose about three stone in weight as well."
Tough Mudder events are not races but highly challenging 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course events designed to test participants all-around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. With the most innovative and challenging obstacles Tough Mudder has so far seen over one million participants get involved globally.
Covering thousands of acres of classic Yorkshire moorland, the event will involve running over rough, rolling fields, through dense woodlands and into streams, bogs and pools of thick mud and clay, making every step feel like an obstacle in itself.
Mark Adams, Managing Director at Transdek UK, says: "It is going to be quite a demanding event both physically and mentally but we are all behind Martin, Leon and Dean. Transdek has pledged to match any fundraising the three of them manage in support of a very worthy cause that offers a wide range of practical support for people affected by cancer."
