Visitors at this year's RWM Show will have the opportunity to see, for the first time in the UK, the next generation of sorting technology - the TITECH autosort 4. The autosort 4 is the first near-infrared (NIR) scanning system not to require an external light source, instead using newly developed FLYING BEAMĀ® technology. FLYING BEAMĀ® technology uses two internal energy sources which illuminate the scanner via a rotating mirror. This results in a homogenous light source which is solely focused on the area of the belt being measured, providing more accurate and consistent sorting over the width of the belt and over time.
The autosort 4 is suitable for a variety of applications including C&I and MSW, MDR MRFs and can recover a wide array of high quality, profitable, fractions from different waste streams, including packaging, paper, household waste and plastic.
Gaskell's Waste will be the first business in the UK to see the benefits of the sorting technology when it is introduced to its state-of-the-art recycling centre in Bootle, Merseyside, in October. Jonathan Gaskell, managing director of Gaskell Waste Services explains: "Improving sorting accuracy consistently and effectively is paramount to us. The autosort 4 is unlike anything else on the market and is expected to make a measurable difference to the quality of our output.
"Every facility has unique waste streams and sorting requirements. In addition to the technology, we've been impressed by the continuing support provided to us by TITECH throughout the planning of the site. This has helped to ensure we get the most from the equipment and the centre as a whole."
Focusing on a simple yet effective design, the autosort 4 brings with it further benefits - it has fewer parts, requiring less maintenance and no external light source means less cleaning, down time and as the light source only illuminates the area of the belt being scanned, it also creates energy savings of up to 70% compared with current industry alternatives.
Other features include high performance valve blocks which will increase material purity and reduce over-sorting, passive cooling enabling the autosort 4 to have an increased operating temperature range and heat sinks that replace active cooling when the equipment is operational at higher temperatures.
In addition to the autosort 4, TITECH will also be showcasing additional technology suitable for C&I MRFs, zorba and meatball sorting.
