The right pickings for Signet

SSI Schaefer has modified the design of their standard container to fit in with picking expectations set out by Signet Trading Ltd for use within their new online shopping area.

Based in Hockley, Birmingham, Signet Trading Ltd, part of Signet Group, the world's largest specialist retail jeweller, also known on the UK market as H.Samuel, Ernest Jones and Leslie Davis, realised that picking errors needed to be minimised within their distribution section.

Signet required SSI Schaefer, the UK's leading storage and material handling equipment solutions provider, to design and provide a bespoke, divided container to allow for the easy picking of small parts which would stop the migration of, for example rings, bracelets and necklaces.

Already an existing SSI customer, Signet wanted to continue using the containers that ran perfectly along their picking conveyor. Chris Parker, National Product Manager for containers at SSI Schaefer and leading the project said:

"We modified the existing Schaefer container and added a 12 cell divider set to sub-divide it. A prototype was made and once approved led to the production of these bespoke containers. A large part of my remit at Schaefer is to provide a complete packaging solution for our customers."

Having proved so useful and due to the success of the first lot of containers, SSI Schaefer has since gone on to produce yet another batch for Signet.
