Thirty-eight UK-built Montracon refrigerated trailer bodies have entered service with Tesco in Malaysia, handling the movement of frozen and chilled foods/produce from local distribution centres to 46 stores throughout the country.
The first order to be placed with Montracon by Tesco in 19 years, the 13.8m long refrigerated bodies are fitted with Carrier Transicold fridge units, have three compartments and have been mounted on locally sourced trailers.
For low fuel consumption and precise temperature control, even in the demanding climatic conditions experienced in Malaysia, the bodies are fitted with Carrier Transicold Vector 1950 MT (multi temperature) refrigeration systems featuring the maker's patented E-Drive all electric technology. Electricity is derived via a generator without the need for the mechanical transmissions found in conventional belt driven systems.
Twist lock blocks have been incorporated into the bodies to facilitate shipping and movement by rail and standard skeletal trailers.
Speaking of the order, Paul Mead, Sales & marketing director at Montracon, said: 'Delivery of the first unit in what is a new product group for Montracon was completed within eight weeks of receipt of order.
'The 'export' bodies have already generated strong interest from other parties in the retail distribution sector,' he closed.
Cliff Smith, fleet engineering manager, Tesco Distribution, said: 'The delivery of the 38 Montracon bodies completes the fleet replacement programme for our operation in Malaysia. Montracon were able to develop a refrigerated body that was able to be shipped into Malaysia and mounted onto a Malaysian built trailer chassis.'
