SWR win waste contract for the Derichebourg group at Edinburgh airport

SWR has won the waste management contract for the aviation ground services provider Derichebourg, at Edinburgh Airport.

Derichebourg is one of the leading international airport service operators operating in nearly 150 airports around the world. Its operations at Edinburgh include cleaning all the planes coming into the airport during their turnaround time.

SWR will be responsible for dealing with all the waste collected by the airlines during flights. SWR aim to deliver significantly improved recycling levels, from 6% to approximately 60%. This will be achieved using their expertise in changing waste processes and a high level of customer engagement. SWR will educate Derichebourg staff about the importance and processes of waste segregation and support them through the changes.

SWR CEO, Giles Whiteley, said: "Having recently won the BAA contract to manage the waste at Edinburgh Airport we have already begun to make positive changes to the way their waste is handled and disposed of. It is fantastic to be working with Derichebourg as well, as we are now having an impact in all areas of the airport operations. This joined up approach will dramatically improve recycling across the site, while reducing their waste disposal costs by up to 20 percent in the first year."

Station Manager of Derichebourg Multi Services, Craig Douglas, said: "As a multinational organisation we take our commitment to the environment very seriously. Employing experts to manage our waste from our Edinburgh operations, will help us to achieve the best possible results. SWR will provide us with quarterly reports, that include our carbon savings, to enable us to demonstrate our progress."
