Industrial property expert Astral Developments chose Stertil Stokvis to provide the dock equipment for its latest warehouse project at Swan Valley near Northampton. Incorporating a wide range of dock levellers, shelters and doors, the Stertil Stokvis installation will ensure that the warehouse can cope with an extremely diverse variety of road vehicles of differing sizes and types.
The major new project consists of 36 docks; with dock levellers fitted into pre-cast concrete pits, and doors and dock seals fitted onto a Prowall system. There are also two level access doors. Trailer-type vehicles will be accommodated by 33 of Stertil Stokvis's SF electro-hydraulic dock levellers with heavy-duty, high-tensile steel platforms and hinged lips. For both trailer/container and double-decker vehicles, three XF dock levellers, each incorporating a special 600mm telescopic lip, were installed. All Stertil Stokvis dock levellers have PE450 polyethylene low friction shock-absorbing dock bumpers, LED red and green traffic lights, anglepoise docking lights and galvanised steel wheel guides with flared ends for ease of parking.
Trailer vehicles will use one of 33 WL heavy-duty retractable dock shelters, fitted with specially-designed polypropylene shoe hinges for longer life. Fixed-frame WIS shelters will cater for taller vehicles with Cordura inflatable air-bag head seals, which can cover a vehicle height range from 3300mm to 4900mm.
Doors for the project were Stertil Stokvis's electrically-operated, sectional, overhead Thermadoors, with full-width windows for additional daylight. Three of these doors had additional height (3500mm) to allow for taller vehicles, whilst all featured full vertical lift operation and the superior insulation properties for which Thermadoor is known. The two level access Thermadoors, measured 4000mm x 5000mm, to cater for all vehicles.
The specific design of this installation means the Astral warehouse facility will be able to accommodate virtually any vehicle type, no matter what its size or height. Stertil Stokvis's vast experience and expertise in equipping loading bays means that the company is able to tailor products to very exacting requirements or, alternatively, ensure that a docking area is ready to cope with whatever pulls up at its doors.
