RWM in partnership with CIWM 2013 to fuel talent in new Skills Village

RWM in partnership with CIWM will be playing a pivotal role in developing jobs and skills within the waste sector thanks to the new Skills Village that will be created inside the event alongside WAMITAB (Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board). The event, Europe's premier annual resource efficiency and waste management show, takes place at the NEC, Birmingham from 10 to 12 September.

With job levels set to rise by 81% between 2010 and 2017 across the UK in the waste sector (EU Skills 2010 Sector Skills Assessment, page 150), skills development is a key focus for RWM in partnership with CIWM, which is why a series of free short practical seminars will be available. The Skills Village will provide seminars over the three days to attract people into the waste sector, as well as developing the skills of those already in the industry.

WAMITAB, the awarding organisation for qualifications and skills in the waste and resource management sector, is developing the programme to offer direct practical support in developing staff from entry level to future leaders.

Seminar subjects in the new Skills Village include apprenticeships, funding, online learning, technical competence and leadership. The aim is to provide bite-sized practical training sessions delivered by industry peers, lasting no longer than thirty minutes, cutting through jargon straight to the core of what businesses and individuals need to understand.

Steve Gee, RWM in partnership with CIWM Event Director, confirmed the new feature as a welcome development: "With the Government's plan to increase energy recovery to about 25% of municipal waste in 2020, there is an ever-increasing need for more quality people and improved skills. This is why we've developed The Skills Village, to help our industry invest in and develop future skills to meet these targets and secure the sector's growth.

"RWM in partnership with CIWM has a long standing relationship with WAMITAB, and we are delighted that together, we will help up-skill and nurture talent and help attract new people into this growing and exciting sector."

Today, RWM in partnership with CIWM also announce new sponsors AmeyCespa, May Gurney, Saica Natur and 3G Source.

With many professionals embracing a wider sustainability remit in their role, RWM in partnership with CIWM 2013 is co-located with three complementary events taking place simultaneously at the NEC from September 10 to 12 - The Energy Event, The Renewables Event and The (new) Water Event. These shows, which can be accessed for free by all visitors to RWM in partnership with CIWM 2013, offer answers to the full range of business sustainability challenges around water and energy management and efficiency.
