Printwaste's charity Shred Day to help school's eco-projects

Money raised from a charity Shred Day hosted by confidential data destruction specialist Printwaste Recycling & Shredding at a Cheltenham school will be used for pupil's environmental projects.

Unwanted confidential documents and personal information from more than 100 parents and local residents was securely destroyed by Printwaste's high-security mobile shredder at Balcarras School as part of a national ID theft awareness-raising campaign.

Printwaste Managing Director Don Robins presented the £109 cheque to Balcarras Headteacher Chris Healy, who said: "We were delighted to help with this very useful and environmentally-friendly service for the community and, of course, the funds are a welcome bonus for the school.

"As all the shredded paper will be recycled, we felt it was appropriate that our Eco Group's projects, which focus on energy-saving initiatives to reduce the school's carbon footprint, will now benefit from this successful event," he added.

The event was co-organised with the school's Site Manager Mike Hindley and held during October's National Identity Fraud Prevention Week, which highlights the risks and high costs to individuals and businesses of becoming victims of identity fraud.

Don said: "Secure shredding is vital to prevent sensitive information getting into the hands of fraudsters. Participants on the day appreciated the opportunity to safely dispose of their documents, as well as help the school. We now hope to repeat similar events in the future."
