Peter Maybury retires as Chairman of Freightliner Group

Freightliner Group’s Chairman, Peter Maybury, has announced his retirement after 18 years with the company.

Peter joined Freightliner in 1997, after working for the Ford Motor Company for over 20 years. Peter’s initial role at Freightliner was to establish a port-based, customer-facing commercial organisation.

Peter subsequently became Commercial Director for the Intermodal business before becoming Managing Director in 2005. Soon after the sale of the business to Arcapita, Peter was appointed to the position of Freightliner Group CEO in 2009. Since his retirement as CEO in 2013, Peter has remained a strong support to the Freightliner Group and executive team through his position as Chairman. He has also held the position of Chairman of the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) Freight Group and has been influential in promoting rail freight across the UK.

Peter said, “I have enjoyed my time with Freightliner enormously and I am delighted with the tremendous progress the company has made since privatisation.”

Russell Mears, Freightliner Group CEO, said: “Peter has been an integral part of the development of the Group since privatisation and has provided guidance and support to our executive team in his position as Chairman. His commitment to Freightliner and the wider rail freight industry is highly respected and I congratulate Peter on a hugely successful career. I wish him all the best for a very happy and well-earned retirement.”

Michael Roberts, Director General of the RDG, which represents Network Rail, train and freight operators, said:

“Peter has made a highly valuable contribution to the rail freight industry, and the railway more widely, through his leadership of the RDG’s freight group. This work has seen the freight sector work together to make the case for freight on rail, setting out the sector’s importance to the economy and its benefits to the environment. Peter leaves the industry with many best wishes for a long and enjoyable retirement.”
