Pall-Ex Logistics has taken its first major step towards a zero-emissions fleet by introducing a fully electric DAF XB Electric 190 into daily operations in Dorset.
The 19-tonne rigid is the companyâs first fully electric vehicle and joins a fleet of around 100 DAF trucks, underlining the manufacturerâs role as the backbone of Pall-Ex Logisticsâ national operation. The vehicle has been leased through PACCAR Financial on a 12-month trial, giving the company the chance to scrutinise its performance under real-world conditions before committing to wider adoption.
Supplied by local dealer Adams Morey in Southampton, the XB Electric has already impressed. Early results show the truck comfortably completing its twice-daily 55-mile routes around Dorset, regularly covering more than 110 miles a day on a single charge.
The DAF XB Electric 190 is powered by a 190kW PACCAR EX-M2 eMotor and a 282kWh âH-packâ battery, which uses cobalt and nickel-free Lithium Ferro Phosphate cells for improved durability and sustainability.
Overnight charging at Pall-Exâs Christchurch depot provides a full recharge, while rapid charging can deliver a 20â80% boost in about an hour. Drivers have been quick to praise the new vehicle, highlighting its quiet drive and smooth handling. Initial worries about the new technology were, according to the company, âquickly dispelledâ once the truck was in service.
Paul Pegg, Managing Director at Pall-Ex Logistics, said: âWeâre decarbonising our fleet across all the Pall-Ex Logistics locations, and weâre thrilled with the DAF XB Electric straight out of the box. The real-world results so far are very encouraging, with our drivers noting its ease-of-use and performance characteristics. By trialling the XB Electric on live operations, weâre able to get practical insight into its capabilities as we look to make responsible and sustainable choices for both our business and for our customers.â
The introduction of the DAF XB Electric marks the companyâs first step into electrification, with the trial set to shape future investment decisions. Pall-Ex credits longstanding dealer Adams Morey for its âinvaluable supportâ in making the project a reality.
DAF and Pall-Ex Logistics have a longstanding partnership, with DAF vehicles forming the majority of the fleet. The company says that the addition of the electric XB is a milestone in its journey towards reducing emissions across all operations.
