Defendant: Merisant UK Limited
The Environment Agency is to prosecute Merisant UK Limited - the maker of Candarel and Equal sweeteners - in connection with breaches of the producer responsibility obligations relating to packaging waste for 2001 to 2006.
The Producer Responsibility Obligations 2007 require companies who have an annual turnover in excess of £2 million and who handle in excess of 50 tonnes of packaging per annum to register with the Environment Agency or a recognised compliance scheme and take steps to recover and recycle their packaging waste.
The case is due to be heard on 12th November 2008 at 11.30am at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court.
