North Wales haulier H.F. Owen posts record 131% turnover growth

Bangor-based H.F. Owen Transport and Storage Ltd said it exceeded its growth targets by a wide margin

A North Wales logistics firm with roots in agriculture has posted record growth, more than doubling its turnover in just 12 months.

Bangor-based H.F. Owen Transport and Storage Ltd said it exceeded its growth targets by a wide margin, delivering a 131% increase in turnover by the end of its financial year in November.

The result went well beyond the company’s original aim of increasing turnover by 50% by December 2025, a milestone it had already surpassed before the year-end.

The growth strategy was set in 2023 under the leadership of group chief executive Kathy Jones, who pointed to membership of the Pallet-Track network as a major driver behind the company’s recent performance.

The strong financial showing follows a period of significant organisational change, including the appointment of Geraint Walker as managing director and Suzannah Kavanagh as finance director.

Kathy Jones said the results reflected a clear strategic shift within the business.

“Our latest financial results demonstrate the power of sustainable leadership, strategic partnerships and decisive organisational change,” she said.

She added: “We are proud of this success, which not only surpasses our financial expectations but also validates the strategic vision set out by the team.”

Jones said strengthening the leadership team had sharpened the company’s focus. “Strengthening our leadership team has enabled us to develop sharper strategic focus and deliver both operational efficiency and disciplined financial management, while supporting the sustainable and profitable expansion of the business,” she said.

She also highlighted the impact of joining Pallet-Track. “Our decision to join the Pallet-Track network in 2023 is a move that fundamentally reshaped our business model,” she said.

“The network has expanded our national reach and unlocked new revenue streams, while helping us to improve service reliability, making it an integral driver of the company’s accelerated growth and scalability.”

Finance director Suzannah Kavanagh said data had played a central role in managing the expansion.

“We have prioritised the use of data-led decision-making to enable us to scale the company rapidly while maintaining financial resilience,” she said.

“This has been intrinsic to our strategy and key to future-proofing the business for ongoing growth.”

Managing director Geraint Walker said the changes had transformed the company’s outlook.

“Joining the Pallet-Track network, combined with a highly committed workforce and clear operational strategy, has transformed the business and positioned it for long-term success,” he said.

“This achievement marks a defining milestone for H.F. Owen Transport and Storage Ltd and positions the business for continued growth, innovation and sustainability.”

H.F. Owen was founded in 1972 by Harry Owen, who began the business with a single second-hand HGV and trailer transporting cattle for local agricultural merchants.

The company now operates across all major freight entry and exit routes in the UK and is owned by North Wales logistics firm Delsol.
