Huw Rees has been promoted to the new post of UK operations manager for Improve, the food and drink sector skills council. He heads a team of seven geographically based operations managers, covering Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and the English regions, who are key players in strengthening relationships with employers and trade associations.
The appointment comes as part of a reorganisation within Improve to focus on working more closely with the most progressive and influential of food and drink manufacturers, their trade associations and representative bodies. Huw joined Improve in 2004 as national manager for Wales, a role he continues to perform alongside his new post.
Previously he spent 17 years with Milk Marque, formerly the Milk Marketing Board, rising to the position of UK head of milk quotas. Before joining Improve he gained a masters degree in business administration (MBA) while working for HSBC bank. He is a fluent speaker of Welsh, and lives near Cardiff.
