New features revealed on the innovative Martrans walking floor trailer

At this year's Tip Ex, trailer manufacturer Martrans is once again showing its latest design of 11m walking floor trailer and the trailer on display will incorporate a number of additional features to enhance the performance and effectiveness of these trailers whilst significantly reducing the trailer tare weight by over 150kgs.

First shown at Tip Ex last year, the Martrans walking floor trailer now features the Keith-designed 'Clean Sweep' system for the first time, a system for cleaning the interior trailer floor following discharge of the load. This has been developed by Keith in America and is now being seen for the first time in the UK.

Other features on the Martrans trailer include a revised rear door design, which provides increased clearance over the previous door for easier discharge, as well as new additional modified safety enhancements that enable operators to bypass the automatic system in a simpler way, when required. The trailer also has a reworked sealing of the trailer floor and the overall effect of these changes means that the trailer tare weight has now been reduced to 7900kgs.

According to Chris Berridge, Managing Director, Paneltex Ltd, the parent company of Martrans, "These trailers are ideally suited for the discharging of loose loads, such as sand and gravel, or alternatively for high temperature applications, including tarmac and asphalt. They eliminate the need for a tipping trailer yet they can carry up to 27t payload, a significant increase in comparison with the payload of a typical eight wheel rigid tipper truck."

The trailer can be used for discharging directly onto the ground or, if required, the rear of the trailer has been constructed to enable it to be used on road pavers, without the risk of any damage to the lighting rear under run or spray suppression parts of the chassis.

"This new design of walking floor trailer gives operators a much wider choice of load applications, its payload is superbly impressive, and it can also operate in a far wider number of potential working locations. Specifically, the trailer is ideal for confined, reduced height access locations such as tunnels, where traditional tipping trailers are unable work. The trailer's ability to carry high temperature and ambient loads also makes it perfect to handle contrasting back loads," said Chris Berridge.

The 11m Martrans trailer chassis on display has been fitted with an Aliweld double skinned body that uses a hydraulic rear door and a double skinned hydraulic sheeting system, which typically can keep loads like asphalt at the correct temperature for up to 6 hours.
