Boots, Butlins and Tesco have all been short-listed for a National Recycling
Award, together with many other companies and organisations who have developed
recycling services or spearheaded initiatives which have helped to prevent the
waste of valuable resources in the UK.
Other finalists include local authorities, community projects and manufacturers
of environmental products. The winners will be announced by stand-up comedian
and television host, Bob Mills, at a glamorous black-tie awards ceremony to be
held at the Bournemouth International Centre on 15 November 2006.
Now in their eighth year, with a record number of 270 entries, the National
Recycling Awards organised by Materials Recycling Week are widely recognised as
the stamp of excellence in the recycling industry. The finalists, announced

The entries were judged by a panel of industry professionals including Lee
Marshall, chairman, Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee; Jeremy Jacobs,
development director, Composting Association; Andrew Braund, head of health and
safety, Confederation of Paper Industries; Trevor Hay, inspector, waste
management and recycling section, Health and Safety Executive; Cam Matheson,
project manager, East London Community Recycling Partnership and Michael
Philpott, president, Chartered Institution of Wastes Management.
Jane Rayner, group editor for Materials Recycling Week and chair of the judges,
said: "This year we had a record number of entries across all categories and
once again the quality was extremely high. It's great to see how the recycling
industry and private companies are embracing challenges and developing
innovative solutions to ensure targets are met and a more sustainable outlook is
created."
