Mobexx is supplying rugged in-vehicle computers with built-in telematics to power Waste Collector - the leading waste management solution from Bartec Systems. This efficiency-boosting system is used by local authorities throughout the UK to provide a direct real-time link between waste collection / street scene crews and their offices via the in-cab Mentor Ranger PC.
The Mentor Ranger provides the live wireless connection between the vehicle and the back-office system and eradicates paperwork and makes mobile phones and radios redundant. The computer also provides an all-in-one system for real-time vehicle tracking and navigation, data capture and voice communications.
The system enables each waste collection operation to be live monitored by the office and it allows crews to relay issues such as damaged or missing bins back to the depot or call centre at a touch of a button. This information can then be used to help customer services staff deal with queries from the public as it instantly updates customer records as to why their bin may have been taken or a collection missed.
With Waste Collector, Councils are improving waste collection performance and gaining a host of benefits, including improved customer service, better routing and round management, reduced road miles and therefore fuel savings. The system provides a comprehensive set of visual tools for real-time planning, maintaining and analysing collection rounds and routes. The system can be used for single-vehicle rounds, zonal collections or one-off collections.
"We are delighted that the Mentor Ranger is providing a key role within Bartec Systems renowned Waste Collector solution. This in-vehicle computer is a class leader in providing a complete telematics, communications and computing system in one easy-to-use device. The computer has been designed and engineered to withstand harsh environments and is ideal for waste collection applications. In combination with Bartec Systems software, the system has set the gold standard for waste collection for throughout the UK and the benefits gained by councils, including Chichester, Harrow, Rushcliffe and Sedgefield are well documented,*" says Mark Dale-Lace, Director, Mobexx.
"We selected the Mentor Ranger after extensive market research and testing of a wide variety of products. The product is robust and reliable and the support from the manufacturer and Mobexx has been superb. We have deployed hundreds of Rangers throughout the UK and Ireland and they perform very well indeed. On a typical day, Mentor Ranger equipped vehicles empty approximately 250,000 bins in some of the most difficult operating conditions a computer can endure. It is the only in-vehicle computer we will supply for that environment," says Tim Hobbs, Director of Bartec Systems.
