The career of British rapper Tinchy Styder reached new heights this weekend thanks to a magic stunt with a GGR Unic mini spider crane. Tinchy, whose popular songs include 'Take me Back' and 'Number 1' was suspended upside down 16 metres in the air whilst wrapped in a straight jacket as part of a magic stunt for ITV's programme 'Under Pressure'.
The singer was in safe hands thanks to GGR Group's experienced crane operator Ian Stewart and the trusty 506 mini spider crane that was more than capable of lifting the lightweight singer. After a long practice run and guidance from a professional escape artist, Tinchy was strapped into the straight jacket and harness, before being hung feet first in front of a busy crown in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens.
GGR Group's CEO Graeme Riley comments; "this was an unusual job and one that required the input from rigging experts and escapologists, as well as sound planning by GGR to ensure the safety of all involved. We are thrilled that our crane could help Tinchy fulfill his goal of undertaking a risky magic stunt and it really does demonstrate the versatility of our equipment."
A Unic URW-506 Mini spider crane was used to undertake the task, which has a capacity of 3 tonnes and a maximum lifting height of 16 metres. The flexible outriggers of the crane and its compact size made it an ideal choice for the uneven surface of Piccadilly Gardens.
ITV's 'Under Pressure' is due to air in the next few months during which viewers will discover whether Tinchy escaped this mini crane magic trick.
