Microlise Nominations Open for UK Biggest Truck Driver Awards
The hunt for the UK’s best truck drivers has begun as nominations open for the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards – the country’s most comprehensive awards for drivers of heavy commercial vehicles.
Now in its fourth year, the main Microlise Driver of the Year award is based on analysis of anonymous Microlise telematics performance data for more than 180,000 drivers to find the best short, medium and long distance drivers over the last year.
However, Microlise is also calling for nominations for Young Driver, Most Improved, Lifetime Achievement, HGV Hero and Extra Mile. These categories will not rely on telematics data and nominations are open for all drivers – whether or not they are on the Microlise telematics platform.
For the short, medium and long categories, Microlise data from the whole of 2017, with company, contract and driver personal identification information removed, will be analysed. A process developed in conjunction with The University of Nottingham’s Advanced Data Analytics Centre will be used to identify the best performing drivers.
The data will then be qualified via questionnaires completed by the employers of each shortlisted driver, allowing for further evidence and indicators to be provided that may result in a driver being named as a winner.
An independent expert judging panel will be appointed to impartially produce a shortlist of three drivers across all categories – both data and nomination based – and decide the award winners.
Shortlisted drivers across all categories will win a track day as reward for their achievement; and a seat at a special awards ceremony held on the evening of the 15th May, 2018 in Coventry – the day before the Microlise Transport Conference takes place. The overall Microlise Driver of the Year winner will be revealed in front of more than 1,200 attendees at what is now Europe’s largest road transport conference.

Our main awards are based on telematics data but we will continue to complement these with nomination-based categories so that we can fully recognise the extraordinary professionalism and dedication of the men and women that spend many hours on the increasingly busy and frustrating road network,” he added.
Nominations should be made through the Microlise Driver of the Year Awards website (http://awards.microliseconference.com) before the closing date of Friday 16th February, 2018.
