Greg Field, Multi-media expert with specialist Materials Handling Public Relations and Advertising Agency Adfield Group, is trying to raise £10,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
He and a group of friends have bought a pair of cars for no more than £500 each and on 8th September will drive the cars to the Nürburgring and complete a lap of the Nordschliefe before driving them home. Whilst this was one of those ideas conceived in a mad moment, once the decision was made to actually do it, Greg realised it was a good opportunity to raise some money and so set the massive task of raising £10,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity.
In the UK, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. 36,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. One man dies every hour of prostate cancer. The Prostate Cancer Charity is the UK's leading charity working with people affected by prostate cancer. We fund research, provide support and information, and we campaign to improve the lives of men with prostate cancer. We provide the only UK-wide prostate cancer Helpline staffed by prostate cancer specialist nurses. Our nurses offer free and confidential information and support to anyone affected by prostate cancer. The Prostate Cancer Charity is working towards a world where lives are no longer limited by prostate cancer. The Charity is fighting prostate cancer on every front - through research, support, information and campaigning.
Greg's team is driving an elderly black BMW 525i, purchased for a heady £400 and barely run-in with 176,000 miles on the clock. The enemy team has plumped for a Nissan Maxima 3.0 V6, obviously believing that front wheel drive and another 500cc of engine will help them win the battle of the barge.
Greg is being supported by a wide range of companies, ranging from K&N (who have donated performance air filters), EBC Brakes (who have donated brakes and disks), Rybrook BMW (who have serviced the BMW and given it the once-over) and Performance Direct (who chose Greg's idea to win a Non-Standard Award and have given his £2500 towards the cost of the trip).
If you would like to donate, you can visit the teams page at www.justgiving.com/nurburgringchallenge. Anything you can spare will help and be very much appreciated - even 50p! Remember to tick the Gift Aid box to maximise your donation!
As well as a blog, Greg has set up Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts and will be regularly posting updates and videos.
