Warehouse technology specialist Lucas Systems has launched its latest innovation – Dynamic Pallet Builder – a cutting-edge software tool designed to help distribution centres build smarter, more efficient pallets tailored to the unique demands of their operations.

The new system uses advanced algorithms to assess thousands of variables in real time, from product dimensions and weight to stacking rules, shipping regulations, route orders, and safety considerations.

With thousands of calculations performed each minute, the solution recommends how best to pick, group, sequence, and stack items on one or more pallets – all while keeping warehouse productivity and safety at the forefront.

According to Lucas Systems, the technology is a step change for pallet-building practices, allowing for continuous, automated decision-making that evolves with the flow of incoming orders.

“It’s constantly and dynamically optimising throughout the day,” said Ken Ramoutar, Chief Marketing Officer at Lucas Systems. “Smarter pallet building also means smarter picking.

"Building better pallets can have a significant impact on reducing damage, minimising worker travel, reducing transportation mileage and improving productivity.”

Dynamic Pallet Builder is compatible with a wide range of warehouse management systems and is highly configurable, allowing it to be customised to match the priorities of individual businesses. The tool dynamically adjusts its logic throughout the working day, responding to fluctuating demand and changing workloads.

The solution is already in use by Veritable Vegetable, a California-based distributor of organic produce. Using a two-stage, voice-directed picking process, the company tailors its pallet builds to fit the unique configurations of its delivery vehicles and routes.

“This personalised approach provides optimal efficiencies for us, and it also gives our customers more flexibility when placing orders. Both are extremely important,” said Mary Jane Evans, Owner and CEO of Veritable Vegetable.

Lucas Systems, long known for its expertise in voice-directed warehouse technologies, sees this new offering as part of a broader push to equip warehouses for the increasing complexity and pace of modern logistics.

With Dynamic Pallet Builder, the company is aiming to give warehouse operators a tool that not only improves pallet quality but also boosts overall agility – a critical factor in today’s fast-moving supply chain landscape.
