Logistics for Cycling - UK freight companies supporting Bike Week

Logistics operators will be taking part in Bike Week (scheduled to take place from 14-22 June), in order to continue to sharing initiatives in improving cycling safety. Around the country companies will be taking HGVs to schools, raising awareness with staff and local communities.


Examples of work taking place by the freight industry during Bike Week include:

Manufacturer BAE Systems will be running an 'On Site' cycle awareness programme

Retailer John Lewis Partnership will be involved in the Metropolitan Police's Exchanging Places scheme, and are fitting cycle awareness mirror stickers to the logistics vehicle fleet.


Logistics and express delivery company UPS will be running a Cyclist Awareness Campaign

Morrisons supermarket will be holding school education visits with HGVs

Sainsbury's supermarket will also be running school education visits with HGVs


Commenting on Bike Week, FTA's Head of Urban Logistics, Christopher Snelling, said:

"As more people take up cycling it is vital we work to ensure everyone remains safe. The logistics industry wants to reduce the number of incidents as far as possible, and as one part of this FTA believes it is beneficial for cyclists and HGV drivers and operators to understand each other better. The aim has to be to for all to share the road safely."
