Toolbank's new, purpose-built warehouse in Halesowen houses over 400 different categories of hand and power tools from more than 200 different brands. Storage of more than 20,000 individual products and its state of the art design is testament to the company's position as one of the UK's leading tool distributors. When it came to selecting racking and shelving for the new warehouse, the company chose a finely honed storage system from LINPAC Storage Systems.
Malcolm Bird is the manager of the Toolbank branch, he commented, "We have found LINPAC an easy company to work with, they were extremely patient during our months of planning and put a lot of thought into the design of our storage solution. Not only that, their product is both good quality and competitively priced – all important factors when reaching a purchasing decision."
Inside the warehouse the diverse portfolio of products stored range in size from a screwdriver bit to a 6' spirit level and include awkward-to-store shapes such as shovels and rakes. In addition, the company stocks flammable items which are required to be kept separately from the rest of the inventory. As a result, the bespoke storage solution is made up of a comprehensive selection of LINPAC's specialist equipment.
Smaller items are stored on shelves in a two tier section which includes both Longspan and Linspace shelving. In total there are some 20,000 shelving locations, with the smallest items neatly arranged in Linbins. Flammable items

are positioned on shelves in a safe area with a steel clad roof, special lighting,
ventilation and a self closing door. A conveyor is used to take the picked products down from the top tier of shelving to the packing area on the ground floor.
Timber decked pallet racking has been installed to contain up to 1,000 Euro pallets of bulk stock. Non palletised products are accommodated in locations that have been specially adapted to store either awkward shapes or particularly long items.
Malcolm Bird concluded, "LINPAC has done an excellent job for us here at Halesowen, the design exactly meets our requirements and is a perfect fit for the warehouse. Because the new storage system was
tailor-made for us we now have the capacity to store 30% more products than in our previous storage system – which was located in a warehouse of the same size. As a result we now have a more cost effective and productive storage facility."
