The Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme (LCRS) Awards judges were impressed with the high standard of innovation and carbon cutting measures featured in entries for this year's inaugural Awards as they met this week to undertake the challenging task of establishing the winners. LCRS members were invited to put forward their carbon reduction initiatives by completing an application within the following categories:
Carbon reduction through fuel efficiency (sponsored by Bridgestone Tyres, LCRS partner)
Carbon reduction through use of alternative low carbon fuels and technologies (sponsored by Iveco Trucks)
Carbon reduction through innovative fleet management
Carbon reduction through use of low carbon transport modes
Freight Transport Association President, Stewart Oades, who was one of six judges for the Awards said:
"The LCRS Awards give members the opportunity to profile carbon reduction initiatives that they have been undertaking to improve efficiency, reduce fuel usage and ultimately reduce emissions. The applications also provide us with some excellent case studies to inspire other companies to make carbon reduction part of their logistics operations. I look forward to presenting the worthy winners with their awards at the Cutting Carbon, Cutting Costs Conference."
The Cutting Carbon, Cutting Costs Conference, which takes place on Wednesday 22 May at the Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon, Warwickshire, is an interactive event providing specialised carbon reduction advice for freight operators with a range of workshops to suit their own fleet and business.
The conference, which is sponsored by LCRS industry partner Bridgestone Tyres and Iveco Trucks, will be chaired by Dave Rowlands, Technical Services Director from Wincanton and include an address from Professor David Cebon, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, on the role of road freight in greening the transport sector. The conference will also feature speakers from Iveco UK, B&Q, John Lewis Partnership and Tesco. Delegates can choose from a range of sessions throughout the day to suit their operation:
