The 2012 International Safety Awards, run by the British Safety Council, closes on 29 February - in 11 eleven days. The Awards recognise the commitment of organisations worldwide, across sectors, to good health and safety management. All companies and organisations are encouraged to apply, both members of the British Safety Council and non-members.
The Awards are given according to both sites and business units - reflecting how good practice in health and safety is often localised and part of the organisational culture. This also allows people to enter multiple sites or business units as they wish.
Last year, the thirty three distinction-winning organisations were from a wide range of sectors including construction, education, energy generation and transmission, facilities management, food and drink, manufacturing, oil and gas, public services, transport and distribution and utilities.
Peter Ebbens, health and safety manager at Greene King Brewing and Brands, which won International Safety Awards at three of its UK brewing and distribution sites last year, said: "We are proud to display the International Safety Award plaque in our main reception so that everyone coming in will know we take health and safety seriously and we have been recognised for it. It is easy to become complacent so it's important that we don't take our foot off the pedal and continue to drive continuous improvement. Therefore we will definitely be applying again this year.
"Winning an International Safety Award enforces the fact that we are doing things right and maintaining a level that is acceptable within the industry."

The closing date for applications is 29 February 2012. The results will be formally announced on 23 March 2012. Winning organisations will be invited to the British Safety Council's awards banquet at the Grosvenor House in London on 18 May to celebrate their success.
