TGW Logistics is delivering a highly automated fulfilment system combining robots, high-bay storage and palletising technology
Kave Home is pushing ahead with a major automation drive in Spain, appointing TGW Logistics to equip a new distribution hub in Tordera, Barcelona.
The highly automated fulfilment centre is due to go live at the end of 2028 and will form a key part of Kave Home’s growth and international expansion plans in the furniture and home décor market.
The site will combine automated storage, order picking and pallet handling technologies to support e-commerce, retail and B2B operations.
TGW Logistics will install an integrated system featuring miniload technology, high-bay automated warehouses, autonomous mobile robots and advanced palletising processes.
One of the main challenges is the wide range of products the site will need to handle.
Packages will range from 400 x 300mm to bulky items measuring up to 2400 x 1200mm, reflecting the varied dimensions typically found in furniture and home décor logistics.
TGW has designed the system so different product sizes can be handled within a single automated operation.
Goods will be brought together from three areas — the miniload system, pallet warehouse and double-pallet warehouse — before being consolidated in one palletising zone.
The installation will also include conveyor technology, Cartesian palletising and depalletising robots, Quba mobile robots for pallets and roll cages, and automated warehouses reaching up to 25 metres in height.
Ergonomic picking stations, automatic palletising and wrapping will also form part of the new set-up.
Once operational, the facility is expected to handle up to 21,000 packages a day.
Storage capacity will rise to 93,000 pallet positions, more than double Kave Home’s current volume.
The company said the additional capacity would support faster deliveries, greater picking accuracy and a more consistent service across its sales channels.

The project is intended to give Kave Home greater flexibility as order volumes grow, while supporting the different demands of online shoppers, retail stores and professional customers from a single logistics platform.
With the Tordera hub due to open in 2028, the investment will significantly increase Kave Home’s storage and fulfilment capacity as it continues to expand internationally.
