In a move designed to put health and safety firmly at the top of the company's agenda, Seafield Logistics has appointed a firm of health and safety experts. By outsourcing the majority of health and safety operations, Seafield believes that this hugely important aspect of the business will be given an even higher priority. The new approach of appointing external specialists has been taken to support internal procedures and to underpin the processes already in place.
Core to the business and the company's future development plans, health and safety is seen as a main focus by the senior management team. Rather like having a permanent external auditor the health and safety firm will be constantly reviewing and challenging Seafield Logistics to ensure that best practice is adopted thereby keeping health and safety at the top of the company's agenda.
The contract has been awarded to Data Sound. Data Sound was established in 1986 and is one of the UK's leading health and safety practices specialising in all aspects of health and safety in the workplace. Data Sound addresses and advises on the legal requirements demanded by all health and safety legislation.
The first phase at Seafield involves an auditing process which will confirm the level of compliance within the company. Existing gaps will be identified and a programme will then be put in place to address these and to ensure that all 18 operating centres are implementing best practice.
By using an external firm Managing Director, Mark Strong, believes that Seafield will benefit from "Expert and up to date advice and the back up of a large team". He adds, "Datasound are supporting the existing infrastructure within the business, with their help health and safety will be given even more prominence". Mark sees health and safety not just as a compliance issue but as something which means the company can "Look after the well being of our employees and customers and protect them".
