Greenstar is best in Bucks

Greenstar UK has been voted Buckinghamshire's company of the year. The Aylesbury-based company, one of Britain's largest recycling-led waste management specialists, was awarded the prestigious Royal Bank of Scotland-sponsored title at the Buckinghamshire Ambassadors Business Awards 2008 held last week in Marlow. The awards are co-ordinated by Buckinghamshire County Council.

The judges chose Greenstar for the honour because of its impressive growth in a short space of time, the facilities and services it provides, and its dedication to treating recycling and waste management in a different way.

Greenstar CEO Ian Wakelin received the award from guest speaker, former England rugby captain and World Cup winner Lawrence Dallaglio OBE.

Mr Wakelin said: "This is a great honour for Greenstar, and the award has been won by each and every one of our 1,800 dedicated staff up and down the country. Greenstar has come a long way in a short time because of its vision and all-round professionalism. But we have much further to go in helping Britain to waste less and recycle more, and this award will stiffen our resolve over the coming months and years."

Wakelin added that the judges commended Greenstar for the way it is reshaping industry practice, particularly its investment in advanced processing facilities and a commitment to recycling.

Greenstar currently operates 42 facilities across the UK, including seven materials recycling facilities with a total annual capacity of one million tonnes and one of the UK's most advanced waste plastics processors, services 24 local authority recycling, refuse and cleansing contracts, and provides recycling and waste services for nearly 400 commercial clients.
