Glencar completes major Birkenhead logistics hub for Finsa UK

The new Grandidges Quay development will serve as Finsa UK’s new UK headquarters

A major new quayside logistics hub and timber-framed headquarters has been completed at Birkenhead’s Grandidges Quay, marking a significant milestone for Peel Ports Group and wood manufacturer Finsa UK.

Construction firm Glencar confirmed the practical completion of the 158,904 sq ft warehouse and accompanying 5,000 sq ft office development, which will become Finsa UK’s new headquarters.

The facility has been built within the wider Wirral Waters regeneration scheme and is designed to support the company’s future growth and operational efficiency.

The development includes a large single-span warehouse with a 52-metre clear span, alongside a two-storey cross-laminated timber office designed with sustainability at its core.

A range of low-carbon and energy-efficient features have been incorporated into the scheme, including photovoltaic panels, battery storage systems and rainwater recycling technology.

The office space also features sustainable timber throughout its structure, while a full Cat B fit-out has delivered new office accommodation, showroom facilities and a trade counter.

Electric vehicle charging points, landscaping works and upgraded external infrastructure also form part of the completed development.

Beyond the construction itself, the project has also supported the regional economy through the creation of jobs, apprenticeships and supply chain opportunities across the North West.

Tom Kearsley, North Regional Director at Glencar, said the development demonstrated the benefits of collaboration and sustainable construction.

“The successful delivery of this project marks a significant milestone for all parties involved,” he said.

“This facility not only supports Finsa UK’s long-term growth but also demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration, technical expertise, and a shared commitment to sustainability.”

“We are proud to have delivered a scheme that will have a lasting positive impact on both our client and the wider Birkenhead community.”

Andrew Martin, Group Property Development Director at Peel Ports, described the project as an important step for the port’s ongoing commercial development.

“This project represents a major step forward in supporting Finsa UK’s continued growth at Birkenhead Port,” he said.

“Glencar has once again demonstrated its capability to deliver high-quality, complex developments, and we are delighted with the outcome.”

Raquel Carrillo, Managing Director at Finsa UK, said the new headquarters would strengthen the company’s long-standing presence in Birkenhead.

“Our new headquarters marks an exciting new chapter for Finsa UK,” she said.

“The facility provides us with the platform to enhance our operations and continue our long-standing relationship with Birkenhead.”

“We are grateful to both Peel Ports and Glencar for their role in bringing this vision to life.”

The completion of the scheme further strengthens Glencar’s position in delivering large-scale logistics and industrial developments within port environments, while also reflecting growing demand for sustainable commercial construction projects.
