Forklift truck distributor, Briggs Equipment, GPS system keeps deliveries on track

Leading forklift truck distributor, Briggs Equipment, has made a further investment in the latest technology to ensure seamless transport and logistics operations for customers' materials handling fleets.

The company has installed a 50 inch LCD screen at its Cannock headquarters to monitor the movement of its transport delivery trucks. The high-tech piece of equipment is linked to Briggs' existing GPS system that provides real-time updates on its dedicated transport fleet movements.

Shaun Dennis, Briggs' Logistics Manager explained: "It's an old saying that time is money and we recognise how important it is for customers to know when a vital piece of equipment is actually going to arrive onsite."

The existing electronic telemetric system is internet based and pinpoints the location of all Briggs' transport vehicles. The system, which can also be accessed from a computer anywhere in the world, enables Briggs to see at a glance where the vehicles are, so the company can instantly answer any customer queries."

"As a result, we help customers plan ahead to ensure the efficient running of their operations - something that can ultimately save them money as well as time," Shaun continued.

This investment is another example of Briggs's ongoing commitment to improving customer service and is particularly helping the company's short-term hire department with its 'next day delivery' promise.

Briggs' Short Term Hire Manager, Allan Parsons, commented: "Customer expectations have increased significantly over the past few years. When customers call us with an urgent requirement, it's critical for that business and we need to ensure that we deliver machines to the second, day-in, day-out."

Briggs delivers approximately 250 machines per week and has around 40 engineers at its Cannock-based engineering facility who service the equipment in preparation for delivery.

"Whether it's a single day hire or a new fleet being delivered, our engineers, transport team and the GPS system work hand in hand to eliminate disruptions to customer's operations and ensure we meet their expectations," Allan added.
