FLTA revises guidance on refresher training
The Fork Lift Truck Association has updated it’s guidance on refresher training in Fact Sheet 12… in the light of the HSE’s Approved Code of Practice and guidance: Rider-operated lift trucks: Operator training and safe use (L117).
In it the FLTA makes clear that it is the responsibility of every employer to establish a training programme based on the skill and quality of their operators.
It points out that, because much fork lift truck work is repetitive, operators can develop shortcuts and pick up bad habits. Routine reassessments help to identify bad practice and give management the insight to iron out faults and maintain good driving habits.
Equally, regular refresher training is important when operators don’t use trucks very often, when working practices or warehouse environments change or to help build operator confidence in the event of a near miss or accident.
