Evolve Energy, the UK's leading energy management company, has welcomed the introduction of Display Energy Certificates (DECs), which come into effect today.
DECs show the actual energy usage of a building, the Operational Rating, and help the public see the energy efficiency of a building. This is based on the energy consumption of the building as recorded by gas, electricity and other meters. The DEC should be clearly displayed at all times and clearly visible to the public. A DEC is always accompanied by an Advisory Report that lists cost effective measures to improve the energy rating of the building.
The DECs will apply to public buildings with a total floor area over 1,000m2 and will affect some of Britain's most famous buildings, from art galleries to town halls.
The Operational Rating is a numerical indicator of the actual annual carbon dioxide emissions from the building. This rating is shown on a scale from A to G, where A is the lowest (best) and G is the highest (worst).
Also shown are the Operational Ratings for the last two years; this provides information on whether the energy performance of the building is improving or not.
Gary Parke, CEO of Evolve Energy, said:
"We welcome the introduction of Display Energy Certificates. They provide visitors and building and business managers with clear information on the amount of energy a particular building is using and the cost effective energy efficiency measures taken to improve its rating. Even old buildings can save up to 40% in typical energy savings through energy efficiency measures implemented. Buildings are responsible for around 45% of the UK's total carbon emissions. Simple measures like this will help reduce them nationwide."
Evolve Energy works with a diverse range of businesses and public buildings across the UK. In each case, Evolve Energy will produce and implement an energy efficiency action plan to reduce their energy costs, usage and carbon emissions, and improve their ratings.
The DECs will show the actual energy usage, the Operational Rating, and energy efficiency of a building based on the total energy consumption of buildings as recorded by gas, electricity and other meters. Each DEC will be valid for 12 months and needs to be updated annually.
About Display Energy Certificates
Display Energy Certificates (DECs) affect buildings with a total useful floor area over 1000m2 that are occupied or part occupied either by public authorities and by institutions providing public services to a large number of people and therefore visited by those persons are affected by this legislation.
Where a building is partly occupied by a public authority or a relevant institution, the authority or institution is responsible for displaying a DEC and having a valid advisory report.
Each DEC will be valid for 12 months and needs to be updated annually. The accompanying advisory report, which is valid for seven years, will contain recommendations for improving the energy performance of the building.
About The Operational Rating
The Operational Rating is a numerical indicator of the actual annual carbon dioxide emissions from the building. This rating is shown on a scale from A to G, where A is the lowest (best) and G is the highest (worst).
