Entries needed by 26 October 2010
For 2011, the Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy are seeking entries from businesses that encourage the use of sustainable energy and/or changing the way people use energy. In particular, we are looking for business applicants that are making renewable energy and energy efficiency products and services more accessible to people and/or encouraging their wider use.

Each year the Ashden Awards reward ground-breaking initiatives, sharing the hard-won success of winners and gaining them wider recognition. The solution may be simple - but if it's inspiring, practical and innovative too, we want to hear about it.
In addition to cash prizes of up to £20,000, we offer our winners a package of benefits and support including a broadcast-quality short film about their work, tailored business support, introductions to influential policy makers and, in certain cases, funders. The awards will be presented at a VIP ceremony in London in June 2011.
Applications must be for work that has been running for at least a year, is technically excellent and is improving the lives of local people.
World renowned TV broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, who presented the awards in 2010, commented:
"These award-winners are champions at delivering practical ways of protecting our planet and its precious biodiversity through the use of sustainable energy. They are reducing carbon emissions and protecting local eco-systems, while improving the lives of the people they touch. They greatly deserve to be celebrated for their important role in tackling both climate change and poverty".
Previous business award winners have included manufacturers, suppliers, installers and businesses working in the built environment including architects and plumbing engineers. In 2010, for example, our business award winner was Willis Renewable Energy Systems in Belfast, for its work using a unique plumbing gadget - the Solasyphon - which speeds up and simplifies the retro-fitting of solar water heating in homes, saving the cost and carbon impact of buying a new water tank (see: http://www.ashdenawards.org/winners/Willis10).

We are also interested in not-for-profit initiatives, public sector organisations, schools, behaviour changing projects and international schemes. Read more about the 2010 UK Award winners here: http://www.ashdenawards.org/uk_2010
