Distribution network for palletised freight company Palletways, expands operations

The Palletways Group, Europe's largest distribution network for palletised freight, has expanded its operations with the opening of a new depot in Didcot.

The 20,000 sq ft depot is the latest addition to Palletways' existing facilities in Lichfield, Edinburgh and Greenford in London. It marks a significant milestone in the Group's future plans for growth.

Warwick Trimble, General Manager for Palletways Oxford, said: "Didcot is ideally placed to replicate the success we've had in other parts of the UK and mainland Europe. Not only is it easily accessible to the road network, but it's also close to key areas of business that will benefit from our services."

The opening of the new depot will see Palletways collect and deliver small consignments of palletised freight to and from customers across Didcot and Oxford areas for onward delivery across the UK, Ireland, the Benelux countries, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy.

The depot was officially opened on Friday 11 May by the Mayor of Didcot, Phil Hayward, who comments: "I'm proud to be given the honour of launching this 'new' Palletways Depot in Didcot, adding another business to our vibrant and growing community. This should help to ensure economic growth and stability for the town, Palletways and the local economy."

The move has also resulted in the recruitment of two new staff members, bringing the total number of employees working at the depot to 17.

Palletways, which was set up in 1994, has 300 plus depots across the Group, delivering 3.5 million pallets per year throughout the UK and nearly two million pallets a year in mainland Europe.

The Group's distribution networks in the UK and mainland Europe are supported by an unrivalled and fully integrated IT infrastructure, which allows customers to track and trace consignments using the internet.
