DBS Software achieves runners-up spot at Scottish Software Awards

WEST-LOTHIAN-based DBS SOFTWARE was runner-up in the 2007 Scottish Software Awards Ceremony held in Glasgow on 23 November. The highly prestigious Targeting Innovation event, sponsored by Barclays Wealth, drew submissions from all the major software companies throughout Scotland.

In detailing its commercial successes over the past year, DBS substantially increased its sales by 44% from £1.8 million to £2.6 million, with pre-tax profit of around £1.2 million. Most of its growth came from its core transport and logistics sectors, in which Managing Director, Colin Ferguson and Commercial Director, Richard Crook have considerable experience and expertise.

During 2007, the company has placed increasing importance on staff training and developing new talent. It is a supporter of the Shell STEP student placement programme. Again, DBS is working towards attaining the ISO 9000:2000 quality certification in 2008.

In the past year, the company continued to develop and sell cost-effective solutions to middle-to-low end range companies, who previously could not afford this facility. This included developing a low-cost, high specification routing and scheduling software solution, which is helping smaller companies reap the same benefits as their larger competitors by reducing fleet mileage travelled and fuel used. Also in 2007, DBS introduced a thriving affiliate programme that consists of introducers and resellers. Projected growth beyond 2007 prompted the company to move into more modem and larger premises in July.

The company's software solutions are now used in over 5000 businesses throughout the UK and Ireland, including public bodies, and strategic partnerships are expected to assist DBS to reach other future export markets in America and Europe.

Based within Scotland's own 'Silicon Valley', DBS Software has established a very high reputation for providing clients with affordable solutions they can use, and there is ongoing investment and a R & D programme to extend their range of programmes.

Clearly the judges were impressed by DBS's submissions and awarded them the runners-up place in a highly competitive event.

A delighted Colin Ferguson said: "We are absolutely over the moon with this award. It

represents the culmination of great team work from all our staff who have worked extremely hard to put us in a leading position of providing cost-effective software solutions to many market sectors. We have a lot of new, innovative developments in the pipeline, and our order books are full, so we are extremely optimistic for the coming year."
