Braby, one of the leading UK manufacturers of stainless steel and aluminium silos, has assisted automotive component manufacturer Mahle in a major project involving the relocation of six silos from Salisbury to Telford.
With full project management supplied by Braby, the task involved uplifting six four metre diameter by eight metre tall aluminium silos, along with ladder, hand railings and bridges from Mahle's Salisbury site. The silos were then transported to Mahle's Telford site and installed.
Chris Matthews, Sales Engineer at Bristol-based Braby, commented:
"The installation of the silos proved logistically challenging due to the silo base at Telford being situated between two existing buildings. The repositioning of the silos meant they had to be craned over a new interconnecting walkway and positioned into this narrow space with complete precision."
Peter Roberts, Head of Maintenance at Mahle commented:
"The phased relocation of equipment from Salisbury to Telford meant that the bulk storage silos had to be transferred in accordance with production schedules at both sites. Major building work constructing a new warehouse and link building made the task and timing all the more difficult.
"Working with Braby, the construction firm and management at both sites, we were able to formulate a relocation strategy flexible enough to reflect the changes at Telford.
"In extremely difficult conditions Braby demonstrated that they have the expertise and knowledge to tackle such complex projects."
Braby, who were selected for their reputation for detailed quality control processes, completed a Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) prior to the project and worked closely with Mahle throughout. The two stages used to relocate and install the silos were spanned over six months to allow for minimal disruption to other aspects of the relocation.
