Industry representatives and officers from neighbouring authorities were among those who attended a unique waste awareness event hosted by Bournemouth Borough Council.
The day featured a public exhibition held in the Town Hall during the afternoon when dozens of members of the public attended to find out more about what happens to their waste and recycling after it is collected at the kerbside.
This was followed in the evening by a meeting of the Environment Scrutiny and Review Panel chaired by Councillor Roger West who invited a number of Bournemouth’s waste management partners to explain what they do in terms of dealing with the Borough’s waste and the issues we are likely to face in the future.
Among the speakers were Patrick Murray from Viridor Waste Management, Tony Knowles from W&S Waste Services, Trelawney Dampney from Eco Composting and Peter Mills from New Earth Solutions.
Councillor Roger West, Chairman of Environment Scrutiny and Review Panel, said: “It was an extremely productive and informative meeting with many fascinating facts and points raised by each of our speakers. We are very proud of our record on waste which speaks for itself with our recycling percentage figures among the best in the country. However there is never room for complacency and there was much discussion on what the future holds in terms of our carbon footprint. I am a firm believer that we all have a part to play and waste is where we can all make a difference.”
