Bradford's Peel Park has been awarded the prestigious 'Green Flag' and a winning feature has been the post-mounted litter bins supplied by Otto.
The Green Flag Award - a symbol of a well-managed, quality green space - is the national standard for England and Wales. The award scheme began in 1996 as a means of recognising and rewarding the best green spaces in the country.
Peel Park was the first ever public park in the city and is named after Sir Robert Peel. The bins used are Otto's metal post-mounted HH2000, which have also been successfully used in parks in Kingston upon Hull and Manchester to reduce losses due to vandalism.
Easily fixed onto a post by means of a simple bracket system that can resist vandalism, the metal bins are easy to clean and maintain, strong, durable and can be manufactured in a range of colours to suit different environments.
"Winning a Green Flag award is excellent for park users and the staff who maintain the park," explained Graeme Atkins, area parks and landscape manager at Bradford City Council.
"Each site is judged on its own merits and suitability to the community it serves and the awards are given on an annual basis, so we have to apply each year to renew our Green Flag status.
"I took a couple of Otto's bins for a trial run and they proved popular with both park users as well as with staff as they are easy to empty. We have now purchased in the region of 50 and I am looking to introduce them to other sites.
"I have standardised both bins and seats in Peel Park, using black seats complimented by the black Otto bins," added Graeme. "There's no doubt that the bins have helped us achieve a clean, stylish look in the park."
The Otto product portfolio includes bins suitable for household, commercial, clinical, industrial, recycled and organic applications, with volumes ranging from 5 litres to 5m3. In addition a number of traditional litter bins providing urban and rural area solutions have been developed for public areas to complement the existing container ranges.
All Otto's waste container products are fully compatible with the collection and logistic solutions offered through its' sister company, HN Logistic Systems, providing customers with an integrated approach to their waste management needs.
